Greater Love

Little Guy finished his breakfast, slipped down from his chair, and climbed into my lap.  He snuggled his head back into the crook of my arm, and looked up at me with half a smile across his face.
Then he whispered,
do you love me more than God?

My insides tightened at his question.  Me, knowing the answer.  Knowing what is right, what I am commanded.  Knowing what I strive to do.

Me, knowing how fiercely I love my children.  Knowing how tempting it can be to love them first.  They who are in flesh, of me and beside me.

Him, waiting expectantly.

I breathed deeply and smiled into his eyes, wishing he could fathom the extent of my love for him.

And I told him,
No, baby.  I love God the most.  More than anybody or anything.  We must love Him first.  Always.
His half-smile spread across his round face, and he snuggled more deeply into me.

Oh.  I love God first too.
What a relief it is to know that we are not the end.

Tears. I love you, sweet friend. There is no greater love than the love we have for Christ. Praise Him for showing you how to love your family and honor Him. :)

So sweet. You are such an amazing mommy. What a wonderful example you are to them. You have been blessed with such precious precious children. I love you! (This post makes me think of Proverbs 22:6)
