At what point in time do you stop seeing the six firetrucks encircling your building and the symphony of sirens...
...and the ax-toting firemen pacing the sidewalks...
...as a really cool evening for your three year-old...
...and decide you better send your men to find out whether it's time to grab the baby and run?
For me, that point came just about the same moment they started raising a ladder right outside our window.
Yep, that was the moment. I saw a guy on the street aiming his camera our way, and I suddenly thought, you know, there's going to be an account in tomorrow's newspaper about this crazy lady who was just snapping pictures while the building burned down around her. I mean, didn't she see all the trucks and hear the sirens and notice the ladder? What was wrong with her?
But, thankfully, the report from my scouts was all clear. So I got right back to snapping.

did you get any intel? they raised the ladder on the building next to mine a couple months ago. i had a perfect view from my window, but literally it went up, hung out for a bit, and then came down. didn't seem like anything was wrong, but it sure woke us all up early in the morning and had us looking at it out our windows for a while. at some point, i gave up and tried to get a few more minutes of shut-eye, but i did wonder if there was a reason for the whole exercise.
No intel at all, Laura! They raised ladders on two sides of the building, but as far as we could tell, everything inside was normal. It sure was exciting, though!
