Chances Are

If a Metro-riding Good Samaritan has to tell me I have a price tag hanging from the underarm of my shirt...
...chances are the tag will be neon orange and scream "Old Navy Clearance $2.99 XL."

If I take the boys on a stroller hunt for a new playground...
...chances are I'll get lost.

If a man kindly stops us, saying we must be turned around, and redirects the stroller to a street with "more volume"...
...chances are we're in the wrong part of town.

If we pass a convenience store and all its merchandise and its cashier are encased in plexi-glass and orders for items are taken only through a small, barred window...
...chances are we're still in the wrong part of town.

If an old lady in hot pink socks and black patent shoes passes us on the sidewalk...
...chances are this playground hunt turned into a really long walk.

If we arrive home and the little guy is still talking about the slides...
...chances are it was worth it.

Glad you made it home safe and sound - I bet your neighborhood looked mighty fine to you!

I think my favorite part of your walk is the lady with pink socks and black patent shoes! And yes, I am SURE it was worth it... no doubt the naps and excitement were proof of that!

I am reading your recent blogs and your Old Navy price tag just gave me a chuckle. Which playground were you in pursuit of? I meant to tell you that I found the best playground! It's called Clemyjontri in McLean and it's free. It's by far the largest one I've been to, has the rubber surfacing, shady areas for picnicking, restrooms, and you can bring trikes to ride along the perimeter. There's even a carousel on site that costs like $1.00, and of course lots of swings, slides and equipment. I know Andrew would love it! Here's the web site link: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/clemyjontri/

Sounds fun! We were visiting the playground at the Kennedy Rec Ceneter in Shaw. Headed way too far in the wrong direction on our way home.
