Manly Maturity

This little guy...
...has an awesome daddy.
Some of the credit goes to his Gaga.  Because he modeled what to look for in a future husband.  And so I picked well.  Really well.
And some of the credit goes to his Grandpa.  Because he taught Jacob to be a good husband and father.
An exceedingly good husband and father.
I am so blessed by him.  As I listened to the homily in church yesterday, my heart swelled.  The priest was explaining what makes a good father and the effect a good father has on his children.  He said a good father embodies manly maturity--he is strength and firmness balanced with gentleness and kindness.  That is SO Jacob.  This man, who works 6 or 7 days a week, usually more than 12 hours each weekday, comes home smiling and always puts his wife and son above himself.  If he makes it home before Andrew's asleep, he takes over the bedtime routine.  If Andrew wakes up early, he handles the morning routine.
On the weekends, he takes Andrew on long runs to give me some alone time in the early morning.  If possible, he stays home with us through lunch to help me during the time Andrew's awake, and then goes in to the office when Andrew's down for a nap, leaving me to rest.  Lately, with this pregnancy getting the best of me, he's been unloading the dishes in the morning before work or starting a load of laundry, and tidying up the house after I've fallen asleep at night.  All this and crazy long hours at work!  This is love--poured out to his family in so many ways, every single day.  He is magnificent!

Oh, and have I mentioned that his #1 son is absolutely, over the moon, hog wild about him too?
Well, he is!
Thank you, Jacob, for being all you are to us!

Oh I loved that post. I feel the same way about John. It really is such a blessing to have a devoted, hard working, loving husband. And I think you're right...we owe a lot to their parents for doing such a wonderful job teaching them :)
