What I'd Like to Tell You

I'd like to tell you that we tried carrots yesterday, and that it was a huge success.

I'd also like to tell you that the little guy ate them up like crazy and certainly did not make gagging noises with every bite.

I'd even like to tell you that carrot mush was not repeatedly spit in my direction with short, violent puffs of air.

And that the whole thing went as well as, or even better than, this picture suggests.
I'd really like to tell you that when the carrot ordeal was finished, I did not need to strip down both the baby and myself for some serious stain removal work.

And that there was no need for me to clean carrots from my child's nose with Q-Tips. And that if there had been such a need, he wouldn't have screamed bloody murder throughout the execution of said task.

Finally, I'd like to tell you that once all carrots were removed from all bodily surfaces (his and mine) and the baby and I were redressed in clean clothes, he most certainly did not douse our new outfits in orange spit up.

But if I told you all that, then I'd be lying.

So, instead, I'll stick with this:

We tried carrots yesterday.

oh elizabeth! it even looks like he is smiling and contented in the picture, even if a little bit of a mess. i would have never guessed all of this based on the picture. really, the kid doesn't take a bad picture.

Amelia refused to eat the Gerber carrots. (And I couldn't blame her - they smelled like V8 juice!) After a similar misadventure, Chad decided to try making carrots himself, and guess what. She loved them. Chad makes all of Amelia's baby food now, and she's already graduated from the pureed stuff to chunks in most cases... She still spits things out every once in a while, though, but I guess that's part of the fun! :)

hey elizabeth! i just wanted to let you know that we had the same thing happen with sweet potatoes... it was awful. two days in a row projectile throw up. i was scared to try veggies for a few weeks after that but now she loves squash... and carrots, ironically. i think the squash is the most mild of the veggies...
good luck!

Ha, I'm sure it wasn't fun at the time, but this post is just too cute. He looks so proud of himself with the spit up carrots on him. :)

He looks so happy, though! Maybe dilute the carrotiness with cereal. Love, mama
