So Far, So Good

We had the great Potty Training Day underwear unwrapping at the stroke of six.  A few never before seen, gifted toys were brought out to help pass the day.  The rules were explained, the incentives advertised.  We discarded the night's diaper and donned the underoos.
And proceeded to have four accidents in a row before ditching underoos for the day.  He's made it to the potty ever since.

The tick-tick-tick of the kitchen timer has provided a steady soundtrack to our day.
Punctuated, of course, by the mad dash, all-hands-on-deck moments, when the timer goes off or Little Guy suddenly goes cross-legged or notices some mild stirring in his abdomen.  Then, I scoop up Buddy Boy, and we all run to the bathroom, where we sing "The Farmer in the Dell" and "Baa Baa Black Sheep" and any number of other requests.  Sometimes, he makes requests like "sing basketball gym" and, ya know, I'm just slap out of basketball gym songs.  So, I make up something along the lines of

{to the tune of "O, Christmas Tree"}

Oh, basketball gym!  Oh, basketball gym!
How dearly do we love thee!

When days are dreary, cold, and gray,
We seek your warmth in which to play.

Refrain

You house lots of balls and bikes
Peace for mommies, fun for tikes

Refrain

Admission is three dollar bills
This playsite is no-frills

Oh, basketball gym! Oh, basketball gym!
How dearly do we love thee!

Quite a beauty, no?

Oh, and Little Guy accompanies me by drumming on the toilet.

We wait and wait and wait.  And then repeat.

Don't you wish you were here???

Actually, we're having a pretty good time.  The hyper vigilance is kind of exhausting and Buddy Boy's not too keen on the mad dashes interrupting his meals, but it's going as well as I could have hoped.  Anyway, they've both got runny noses and it's a cold and rainy day.  What else were we going to do?

Hooray for Andrew! Amelia was the same way with underwear the first time she wore them -- kept having accidents. Which was why we went with the naked potty training! I think that wearing pants without underwear after the first few days is key for success on this -- if you add underwear too quickly, they mistake it for a diaper. Looser pants must not! Hope all continues to go well. :)
