Recently, I was offered the opportunity to review Fiber One yogurt and host a giveaway for my readers. I gladly accepted, because I've been wanting to try Fiber One yogurt and because who doesn't love a giveaway? Especially one for a $50 Safeway gift card!
Since a snowpocalypse is forecasted for DC this weekend, I thought I'd best run out today and pick up my Fiber One yogurt if I was going to get a review in anytime soon. I did consider whether this was the best time to brave the grocery. I checked out the apartment window...no flakes falling yet. I silently willed Andrew to wake on time from his morning nap...that was successful. And I rationalized that they see a lot of snow up here, that the freak out factor would be much lower than what I was familiar with down South...wrong!
First bad sign: people screaming out their car windows at each other over parking spots. Hmmmm. And then there were no shopping carts left. Not a single one. Mind you, I've got a toddler on my hip and a diaper bag/purse and resuable grocery sack on my shoulder. Okay, well, we'll just grab the yogurt and a little baby food to get us through snowmageddon, whiz through self-checkout, and be on our way. Wrong again!
Silly me, I thought the end of the line for self checkout would be found somewhere near the front of the store. Not exactly. I turn up the aisle adjacent to self-checkout, looking for the end of the line, and keep walking and walking, until I've come out the other end of the aisle and curved back down the next aisle a few paces. Ummm. I can't say I've ever seen grocery store hysteria like that in Alabama.
So, we wait and we inch forward. Andrew unpacks the yogurts from their carton and rolls them across the floor of the grocery store. Lovely. He throws sacks of beans around. He pulls apart his diaper bag. He spits up. He gives his diaper changing mat to the man standing behind us in line. (Just what he's always wanted!) He army crawls down the aisle.
We get within, say, ten people of the front of the line, and--something about all the baby wrangling and having to push a sack of groceries down the aisle with my foot--I start to experience one of those pregnancy blood sugar drops I'm prone to have. All shakes and sweats and dizzy feelings. I had one of these at another grocery store once when I was expecting Andrew, and Jacob has never let me live down the way I plowed through a box of donut holes, standing right there in Aisle 3. But, alas, there are no donut holes in reach. We're stuck interminably in the aisle of canned goods. Nothing in sight that I can rip open and madly devour. So, I'm just jittering away and stripping down to what I had previously considered only an undershirt.
Finally, we reach the front of the line and a self-checkout station opens up. I think I heard choirs sing. We manage to make our purchases and get back down to the car. I'm still shaking, when a brilliant idea strikes me. I rip open a container of Fiber One strawberry yogurt, tilt my head back, and gulp her right on down. Spoonless. In the driver's seat. With people circling like sharks for my parking spot. And it was good, y'all. Really good. Thick, creamy, just the right fruit to yogurt ratio for my taste, and no hint of the 5 grams of fiber they've got in there. Plus, it was just 50 calories. I've heard donut holes have a few more than that.
So, do you want to stave off hunger with your own Fiber One yogurt? Well, one lucky reader will be getting a $50 giftcard to Safeway (also good at Dominick's, Tom Thumb, Randalls, Vons, or Genuardi's), where, until February 9, you can get two 4-packs of Fiber One yogurt for only $4. To be entered for the $50 Safeway card giveaway, leave a comment with your email address or some means bv which I can get in touch with you if you win, and tell me what flavor of Fiber One yogurt you would choose: Strawberry, Key Lime Pie, Vanilla, or Peach. All are welcome to enter. One entry per person, please.
This was a compensated review, made possible by Safeway and Fiber One through MyBlogSpark. The product coupon, gift card, information, and giveaway have all been provided by the above. As always, the opinions I share on this site are mine alone.

Very cool! I have never tried fiber one but we do not have a Safeway any where near here. If I were to win can I give it away to someone who has one close to them? I would try peach bettycox18@yahoo.com

Sorry the grocery store was such an awful experience! :(
Elizabeth, that was a wonderful review/post! Hysterical. And I would love to try FiberOne yogurt. I'm on a bit of a strawberry kick these days, so that's the one I would go for.

i'd go for strawberry--laura.d.golden@gmail.com.
glad you survived the grocery store, but sorry it was such a bad experience. if this happens often, maybe you should toss a few glucose tablets in your purse to always have on hand. they work wonders.
I have tried Peach and Strawberry and they are both delicious!
P.S.- I was just telling you that I tried them, I am not entering the contest since there is no Safeway near me!
I ate an eclair one time standing up when I was expecting you.
The key lime tastes just like key lime pie without the crust - I don't know how they can make 50cal taste so good and where is the fiber hidden?
I'd try key lime pie. I've been wanting to try them for some time also...maybe it's a sign. bakermeb@gmail.com
Just realized I should have said it was me when leaving that comment! I'm new to blog commenting.
Keylime sounds delicious, although peach is always a great standby! I love reading about your adventures. . . enjoy your snowy weekend. And send some of that snow to us in Montana! Julie jdgoodkind@gmail.com
Peach...for sure! And I'm so sorry about your awful jitters. I do that all the time when I'm pregnant. It's no fun. Hope you're feeling better?! (morning sickness?)
I would try peach :) And I've been needing to add more fiber to my diet! This would be a good way to start!
I would choose vanilla! A classic :)
