Faithful readers {gold star to you!} may recall that Andrew L-O-V-E-S to be swaddled for naps. For the first couple of months, the ordinary swaddle kept him contained, but as he got stronger and more mobile, the need for a newer, better swaddle emerged. A little Google searching and trial by error modification later and we had down pat what we like to call the Swaddle 2.0.
{And to think my Google searches used to go something like "Jessica Simpson fashion photos" or "how to do smoky eyes"...}
Well, at almost 6 months, Andrew is outgrowing even the Swaddle 2.0, so before it's lost to infant care history, I thought I'd give a little tutorial in hopes that it may help somebody out there to get their baby to sleep...well...like a baby. And for all you snickering non-parents, just you wait! ;)
Please pardon the sidewaysness of the next two photos. Blogger refuses to post them correctly.
Step 1:
Fold a stretchy receiving blanket into a triangle.
Step 2:
Line baby's shoulders up with base of (inverted) triangle.
Step 3:
Take one corner of base and wrap over baby's arm and pull under baby's body. I always give a nice upward tug toward the armpit for extra snugness, too.
Step 4:
Repeat with other corner and soon enjoy soundly sleeping baby.
Now you see why the Swaddle 2.0 is also known as the Straitjacket Swaddle.
Oh, the hours and hours Andrew would sleep when wrapped up like this! But now...
...he can do the fully swaddled flip, so it's time to bid adieu to the Swaddle 2.0!

MT bucked the swaddle movement at about 7 weeks. that little houdini could get out of the best, tightest swaddle!! she likes to sleep with her hands near her face. i hear the miracle blanket it awesome...and also a pretty penny at $28 on ebay!! but a total "miracle" worker.
sleepy blessings to little andrew!
This works even for fumble fingered grandmothers too! But if he outgrows it, we'll have to hope he'll just nap from all that rolling around. Love, Mama
Nora was SO addicted to her swaddler... but now a big girl at eight months old, she has re-learned how to sleep. I like your 2.0 version - VERY creative!
I had to keep telling myself... she wouldn't need a swaddle blanket when she turned two, no matter what!
Try tucking him in tightly under a twin size sheet. He will feel secure, but still able to move a little. Love, Gigi
