Election Day

Don't neglect to fulfill your civic duty and privilege today--be sure to get to the polls!

Jacob and I thought we would beat the crowd if we got to our polling site before it opened at 7 AM. Wrong! The line was already 3 city blocks long! While most of the people waiting in line were quietly drinking coffee or reading the newspaper, we managed to secure a spot next to two women who were determined to hash and rehash their roommates' drunken exploits at the shelter the night before. Loudly. And then discuss whether one of the women (who sported a mustache) felt more like "Minerva" or "Lou" this week, and how that might affect her wardrobe choices in the coming days. Again, loudly. For more than an hour. In the cold. But after far too much unavoidable eavesdropping, we finally reached the front of the line and succeeded in making our red dot in a blue District presence known!
And we witnessed some illegal electioneering. Way past the electioneering cut-off point, just in front of the door to the polling site, a man wearing an Obama hat and pin hops out of an SUV, flashes a big Obama poster, and then goes down the line, passing out sample ballots. Our chatty line neighbors inform him that he's inside the cutoff and not to go messing up their election, and he says, "I know. I'm on my way." Not even a plea of ignorance!
At work, people were reporting 3- and 4-hour lines, though, so I guess we lucked out. Are lines this long everywhere?

HI,
We were in and out in about 5 minutes....of course I doubt that Mountain Brook is having a huge surge of new voters. I am pretty sure that most of our citizens vote in every election. On TV they did show the lines to be very long down at legion field...hmmm wonder who they are voting for??? Say a prayer and hope for a miracle. Love you Aunt Betty

We only had a 20 minute wait in Montgomery, and when we got done, there was no line behind us. This was at 8 o'clock this morning. I'm sure it got a little worse as the day went on....

Sara and I were an hour and 20 mins. No drunken stories from us, but our neighbor (who happened to be in front of us) was denied because her name got left off the sign in sheet. She was a TAD pissed.

I must have hit at a perfect time here...i was in and out in 5 minutes...or less...and had 2 kids with me. I'm not sure I could have waited that long with little ones!!
I'm pretty glad this is all over!

So..is baby Andrew still breech??? I remember what it felt like to have a head sit right under your rib cage!
Hope you're feeling well!!

I got to the polls yesterday at 6:45 am, and the line was already through the church, out the door, and around the corner. People had gotten there as early as 5:30 am!
