Getting There...

Although I'm not really showing yet, my tummy has grown enough to make most of my regular clothes a bit uncomfortable. So here's my first tummy picture! You can't see much, but you'd be surprised what a change it is. This will be a good comparator when I'm gi-normous!

Jacob was so sweet and took me to get some '7 For All Mankind' maternity jeans today--best invention ever! They are so very comfortable.

Day Trip to Annapolis

Morning sickness has made me a very poor travel companion as of late, so for Memorial Day weekend, Jacob and I decided to play it safe with a day trip to Annapolis, just 30 miles away. We had a really great time! Here we are on the dock by the Chesapeake Bay, at the beginning of the day:

We took a sightseeing cruise that featured an up-close view of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, an engineering wonder that has always interested Jacob. The cold weather has finally departed from this northernly region (I think!), but it was still pretty chilly on the boat!

Jacob and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge--it's over 4 miles long!

After the cruise, we toured the Naval Academy grounds, and took a little stroll over to the Carroll House, the family home of Charles Carroll, the only Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence.

We then shopped a bit in the cute Histroic Distric and made our way to the State House.

We topped the day trip off with a great dinner at Aqua Terra, an Asian seafood fusion restaurant. Wasabi crabcakes are surprisingly good!

Happy Memorial Day!

A kumquat!

Babycenter's website has awesome updates they send out each week, comparing the size of the baby to something familiar (usually a fruit) and describing the week's developments. We're currently at 10 weeks and 5 days, and the 10 week email revealed:

"Although he's barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby now has completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature. If you could take a peek inside your womb, you'd spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin. "

Nails! Just last week the ultrasound showed only the very beginnings of arms and legs, and now we've progressed to nails. Wow!

Amazing Growth!

Jacob and I are so amazed by how much Baby Snodgrass has grown in the last 2 1/2 weeks. Apparently we jumped the gun a bit by showing up to the doctor's at 5 weeks, so he wasn't able to see much in our first ultrasound. Dr. G had us return two weeks later, and we got our first view of this very tiny baby, heartbeat and all:

On our most recent doctor's visit, though, at 9+ weeks, we saw a much bigger baby below. Baby Snodgrass is still only about an inch long, but we think quadrupling in size in 2 weeks is pretty good!

We are so thankful to be receiving this amazing miracle!

Since Jacob and I are looking forward to our family soon expanding, we want to be able to keep family and friends updated on the exciting changes and developments. By the time Baby Snodgrass gets here, I hope to have a good grasp on how blogging works, so be sure to check back in with us!
